This actually happened to our (mine and my roommate's; for those just
tuning in, I do not actually live with my family in that pink-walled
trailer anymore) TV. The entire top half was dead, there was a bright
horizontal line that appeared to be trying to be the entire top half of
the picture, and then the bottom was fine.
So my esteemed
roommate watched the picture-in-picture for a few days. I laughed at his
inability to stop watching TV when it was obvious that he wasn't going to
get much quality watching in. And thus, inspiration hit me in the face
with a cream pie.
Actually, I'm glad it didn't use a cream pie.
That would've been heck to get out of the carpet.
